Online Course of Media Literacy in Georgia

For several years distant training has begun in Georgia. The Civic Development Institute started to develop distance learning courses in 2018.

The distance learning platform was created by moodle.cdi.org.ge where different courses of distance learning were developed by us. Among them are the "Introduction in Media literacy" and "Media literacy for teachers" Courses. "Introduction in Media Literacy" is an open course and anyone can get free access to it. The course is intended for high school pupils, students, adult people of any age and profession who are not familiar with the theories of media literacy and are interested in how the media affects human opinion, feelings and decisions. More than 90 people have accomplished this course.

The distance learning blended course of "Media Literacy" is intended for teachers. The aim of the course is introduction of media literacy education in schools. It envisages preparation of methodical materials to develop the competence of the media pedagogy in the learning process.

The course allows teachers to prepare methodical material and use practice. One group of teachers has already completed the course.

The abovementioned course participant - Megi Kutkhashvili says that the online course of media literacy was very comfortable for her because the study materials were laconic, interesting and varied. Megi emphasizes that while studying distance, learners can choose the right time to work and this is a very strong side of the course,  as,  nowadays, time management is the biggest problem.
