State of Inclusion in Armenia
The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, Article 35, defines that every citizen of the Republic of Armenia has the right to education. In 1999 the new RA law about education gave the right to the parent to select the type of school for his/her child to attend – mainstream or special.
This paradigm shift established basis for civil society organizations to empower parents of children with disabilities to become advocates for the rights of their kids to get quality education in mainstream schools together with their peers. In 2005 Inclusive education became an integral part of education policy of Armenia and the inclusive schools started to get additional budget for inclusive education.
